Lovely old hunting lodge with very friendly staff.

Pros: We were given a very friendly welcome and the lodge was like staying in a stately home for a few days. Views from the windows were amazing and the bedrooms spacious and comfortable.

Cons: The dinner menu is rather limited and there is nothing else around, having said that the meal we had was delicious.

My favourit stay when back in Scotland.

Pros: I have visited the hotel on numerous occasions during my visits to the Land of My Birth. Actually my first visit was in 1951 2 weeks before I set sail for Australia. I just love the place!!!

Cons: Nothing!

A fine stay in an elegant property!

Pros: A lovely property with a sense of country house grandeur! Bedroom was quiet, luxuriously decorated and extremely comfortable. The manager, Craig, was very friendly, welcoming and incredibly efficient. He is an absolute star and a credit to the hotel!

Cons: Some of the modern ornaments appeared out of keeping with the beautiful original features of a Victorian property.

Superb location and friendly staff. Very good breakfast A little expensive

Pros: Superb location. Really great host who seems to do everything himself but is always on hand and friendly. Very good breakfast

Cons: It’s a little expensive for what it is but then it’s the only place like it in this area

Nice experience to stay in former grand hunting lodge.

Pros: A real treat to stay in a former hunting lodge, actually a manor home. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was perfectly adequate, and we enjoyed a drink in the bar the night before. With advance notice dinner can also be provided. Some of the decor is out of time and does not complement the history of the home, but this did not distract too much. There is nothing around the property in terms of shops or restaurants, but the location served our purpose as an overnight stop.

Cons: The midges were out but thankfully it was breezy so we opened a window. If not, the room would have been way too hot and stuffy as there were no window screens.

Excellent all round

Pros: In a beautiful spot on our trip around the NC 500. Very comfortable and a lovely welcome. Wonderful food expertly cooked. Comfy bed and everything we needed in our room.

Cons: The only thing I’d suggest is that the double room we were in needed a mirror close to a socket for when using the hairdryer

Pros: The location and communal rooms are stunning. The staff were really welcoming and professional. Dinner was very good. The room was clean and well styled. This place is charming and has an old fashioned opulence that we loved.

Cons: We had a spa bath with rainbow lighting which I was excited to try but unfortunately it was broken and the taps didn’t run. We had to fill the bath using the shower which took a while. The view from our bedroom window wasn’t great. With these two things improved, I’d be giving a 10 but when you pay a lot you want things to work.
