I used it as an accommodation hub for my Lands End to John o’Groats walk. It ticked all the boxes for what one needs!

Pros: A combination of hotel comforts with hostel living space and an amazing host where nothing was too much trouble.

Cons: Couldn’t fault it at any level.

Oasis in Helmsdale

Pros: Maree meets you and gives you all the information you need for an enjoyable stay. Her friendliness is warming. The lodge is soooo clean, and very comfortable. We had a quad room with private bathroom for our family. The kitchen is well equipped and the living area spacious. Lovely walks by the river across a little bridge with the shops only 5 minutes away.

A worthwhile stay

Pros: Seems to be a recently renovated hostel. All the quirks of a hostel but with the luxuries of a hotel. Host was very friendly

Fabulous accommodation

Pros: It's such a wonderful place to stay. I enjoyed my time at Helmsdale Lodge Hostel very much. The accommodation is spotless clean and well-maintained. It has a welcoming atmosphere, and Maria is a very kind host. Feels more like visiting an old friend rather than organised accommodation. I would book again without a moment of hesitation when in the area.

A happy find

Pros: Friendly welcome; clean, fresh room with spotless ensuite; big shared lounge with decent WiFi (and a log burner for cold nights - not needed in August though!); well equipped kitchen area. Handy for the village centre - Spar; chip shop; pub restaurant) and a couple of craft / souvenir shops- and also for the little harbour, which made for a nice evening stroll.

Cons: Fronts onto the main road so, quite a bit of traffic 'til late, also beware : the road next to it has recently been made one-way and your sat nav may not have realised - look for the brown signs that take you round via the next road down.
