Excellent stop
Pros: Annette said they had limited food because the bad weather (snow++) meant their deliveries had not arrived. But they still had a good range and it was well presented, well cooked and good value. Restaurant would be a bit too well lit and quiet for some but it suited me very well. Room clean and adequate size (single).

Decent place for passing cyclists with excellent staff!
Pros: Staff were very helpful and responsive, making space in a locked room for my bicycle and keeping the kitchen open for my late arrival (even offering to prepare something for me to eat after hours should my delay be too late). Just really decent people, and a great breakfast the next morning.
Cons: Nothing - I really recommend this hotel!

Well located hotel
Pros: Location was great. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was epic. Room was clean and had everything I needed. This hotel is a perfect base for the nc500 if you are a biker, you can do loops out and back to cover the whole route over as long as you wanted.
Cons: Mattress was a little hard.

Very pleasant experience. I wish I had stayed longer.
Pros: I spent 3 nights in a single, en-suite room overlooking the street. The hotel retains an air of antiquity, but was modernized and is very well-maintained. The interior is welcoming with a warm and homely feel to it. My room was very clean and refreshed every day. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The desk and chair were a plus, so I could do some work on my laptop. Very good wifi, although I didn't use it for streaming films. The bathroom was small, but suitable for one person. Electric shower with hot water available. Delicious Scottish breakfast with a choice of cereals and juice (needs to be ordered the night before). Prompt and courteous service, and overall very attentive and friendly staff; I interacted with four people, but couldn't tell who the owners were. Spacious car park right in front of the hotel, and a small, but well-supplied convenience store in town.
Cons: Nothing wrong with the hotel, the room or the staff. The following is not criticism, just a note on the area and hotel opening times. 1. Lairg is a bit remote - more remote than I had realized. It's at least a 3-hour drive both ways (one and a half one way) to reach the west coast (Ullapool, Scourie, etc.). The roads are in good condition, but it's unsafe to drive at the speed limit, especially early mornings and late evenings, as there are lots of deer in the area that can be quite a hazard. 2. The reception opens around 7:30 am and the hotel closes at 10 or 11 pm, although the pub may be open longer. I was put off by this at first, as it looked a bit like a curfew, implying I should be back at a certain time, but staff is very understanding and can make arrangements if leaving early or arriving late. Just let them know in advance.
